January 9th, 2009
  • on a pain scale of 1-10 10 being the highest amount of pain, how would rate the pain of getting a tattoo on your writst? i want to get 5 letters in sanscript prolly about 2 inches in height, how long do u think it would take to complete the work and how much do u think it would hurt? i really want it but i need to know the truth on how much its gonna hurt other wise im going to do it on my waist! thoughts? opinions?

  • I have 5 Chinese characters on my left wrist. There was not really any pain. From 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest 1 maybe 2. make sure it is something you really want, you will have to look at it every day. Report Abuse

  • i think it would hurt pretty damn bad

  • The pain level depends on a few things. First, the tattoo artist. Some have a heavy hand and some are light. The more experienced the artist, the lighter the hand. New artist are generally more painful. Second, is the tattoo on the inside of your wrist or the top. The more delicate the skin, the more painful. Around a bone adds to the pain factor too. I suggest if pain is an issue, tattoes are not for you. The stomach might be better than the inside of your wrist but not so much the outside. Timewise, if the lettering is basic (they should have it at there shop) then it should only take about 20 minutes of actually tattoo time. Good luck.

  • Duh. I'm a model, so i don't have tatoo's they are so OUT. Only Angie Jolie gets away with it, because she is cool. I would say getting a wrist tattoo, she pain rating is 10. My friend, Missy Radar got one and then burned it off because she 1. didn't like it, 2. it hurt, 3. it looked rlly bad. Get a temporary tattoo is u r that desperate.

  • every person is diffrent what really hurts on me may not boter you at all women have a high threshold for pain but typlical speaking if your wrist are thin then the bone is closer to the skin there for it will be more painful than that of a plump gal

  • I would think anywhere would hurt!

  • All tattoos hurt a little or a lot depending on your tolorance level... I have one on my foot and my hip and it hurt a little because the skin is thin just like on your wrist. It also depends on if you are getting the inside or the outside done and which hand you are getting it on. If you are getting it on the hand you write with you will have a little more muscle and it might her a little more. All in all though, it is the sound of the tattoo gun that gets me more than the pain. Once he puts his foot down on the stomp pad to make it go you get very nervous knowing a bunch of needle will hurt you. For me the scale would be about a 4 but I have been through the pain 3 times before.

Also a heads up, if you are young and are going to be going into a professional type job, I would advise not getting a tattoo on your wrist. Bosses are likely to decline you for having visible tattoos. But please dont take that as me telling you what to do.

  • it really depends on how skinny your wrist the closer to the bone the more it hurts. the most painful spot is on your rib cage.

  • Going to hurt at about a 7-8 depending on your pain tolerance. Any tatt on the bone is more painful than on muscles/tissue. Not sure how long to complete. Depends on design, complexity, and the artist him/herself

  • I just got a small colored-in heart tattoo on my inner wrist (on the fold) a few days ago. Being it was my first tattoo, it kinda hurt and burned a bit . But after a few min, it just feels like a very strong vibration. The pain is around a 4. Report Abuse

  • Well, I've had my ankle tattooed (as well as my upper arms, thigh, and calf) and if the wrist is like the ankle, it's gonna hurt a lot. I'd say the pain scale was from 7 - 8. I literally had to bite down on a towel, but I have to admit, it was worth it. I love my tattoos!

  • I have a tattoo on my left wrist. The pain overall was about a 6. But the bone that bumps out on the side that my pinky is on, hurt REALLY BAD, like a 9. It also took a very long time to heal on that area, and now there is scar tissue. My tattoo artist gave me a lollypop and that helped. It should only take about 30 minutes, you don't have much area to cover. Good luck!

  • From what I have heard from friends who have multiple tattoos in multiple locations, tattoos that are on bone(s) hurt the most--for example, a tattoo on a knee or shoulder would hurt more than a tattoo on your forearm or bum. Report Abuse

  • Yes. Tattoos hurt, that whole needle poking you repeatedly. Depends on your tolerance. My tattoos hurt, but it wasn't in like a labor or broken bone sort of hurt. So I would say like a 1.5 or 2. Time wise, best to ask your tattoo artist, and you should get to know them well before they start poking you with needles:) It is going to hurt whether on your wrist or your waist...you need to make a decision on where you want it, and then just go with it.

  • no matter where you put your tattoo its going to hurt but the end result will be worth it!

    good luck!

  • I have found anywhere with bone to be the most painful, generally. I would think the wrist wouldn't be too bad. I'm sure others would disagree.

  • hello. I think despite the pain, go with your original place for your tattoo. It'll be a pain worth going through. I have works on my neck bone, inside of both biceps(very tender spots) and both sleeves & still not finished. I was grabbing the chair so hard when they shaded the back of neck. But i'm glad i went through it, i love it and that was my first piece too!! Wrist pieces are gnarly so tough it out! You won't regret it. Level, hmm, i think a 5. Good luck. You'll be fine and you'll love it even more knowing how painful it was....take cares!!!
