Nomination for smallest on-board snack of all time?

January 9th, 2009
  • Flying on QX 2088 two days ago, the on-board snack was a pouch of "Sunglory Raisins", net wt 14g. Upon opening this tough little container, I was rewarded with 8 (eight!) raisins. In all of my travels, this qualifies for the smallest intentional on-board snack of all time. Can anyone go lower?

In defense of the Sunglory Raisin folks, I can say that each individual raisin was moist and tasty. And if it had been an afternoon flight instead of morning, I would have had a glass of free QX wine and forgotten all about it.

(I searched, but didn't find a forum/thread for on-board snacks, so posted it on the appropriate airline forum)

  • I received about 24 pretzels, 12x2 on my Anc-Sea-Las this past weekend.:td:

  • I know it's not AS, but on a recent flight on Air Canada between Victoria and Vancouver, the on-board snack was a solitary mint on the 15 minute flight.

It was kind of funny. :D

Hmm...I think 12 pretzels still outweigh 8 raisins. Now if our metric was taste, that might be another matter...

  • Out of curiosity, what is QX serving as their mid-day snack currently?

Well, yesterday on the return flight from Walla Walla it was a bag of some sort of baked wheat snax. Together with the WA state red wine, quite nice! (and weighed more than 8 raisins(.

    Last weekend:

    SEA-STS = Sticks
    STS-SEA = wheat crackers

  • The little Ghiraidelli chocolate squares that they unveiled in first to pass as "dessert" a few years ago were pretty small too. ;)

  • I hate raisins.

What happened to those "organic" potatochip like snacks with sun dried tomato flavor? I actually bought them at the grocery store after eating them for the first time on Horizon.

Heh--I think the raisins were the breakfast snack--all I needed was a bowl of oatmeal!

  • I've had the raisins on the (ugh) 0600 shuttle flight to SEA since March. I have quite the collection of them in my kitchen. They are the "breakfast" snack.

As for the wine on the morning flights, I've asked for it on the aforementioned 6 am departure. The flight attendant usually looks at me like I'm from another planet. Not sure why...

If I was flying from TUS-SEA at 6 am, I'm pretty sure some wine would help?

  • On my very first QX flight a couple of weeks ago, a 6:30am PDX-SEA run, I wanted to try the Oregon microbrew beer the in-flight magazine said they had. (Beer at 6am, you ask? I hadn't gone to bed yet--working nights, 6am for me is roughly equivalent to 9pm for a regular 9-to-5er...) The FA didn't look at me strangely, but he did say there probably wouldn't be enough time to do both the regular AM beverage service and crack open a bottle of beer, too.

But literally moments before landing, he appeared at our seat with two cups filled with a very tasty brew. I now know why people say there's great service on QX! :D

I would like to echo the comments of jackal:D, and add that raisins were served indeed. (Better then those sticks they handed out last year during mid-day flights) It was indeed a good brew.

  • I think 14 g might be the bottom end of the snack sizes; there's been a "pomegranate bits" and "yogurt raisins" kind of snack of QX that is also 14g.

I miss the oatmeal breakfast cookie things of a few years ago.

    E

  • For those wondering, 14g is about .5 oz. And while it wasn't AS or QX, I did fly F9 PDX-DEN and received a package of one Biscoff weighing in at .4 oz. Really, at some point why bother! Oh, wait, I guess many airlines don't anymore....

  • Do chocolate covered macademia nuts or should I say nut package count? Actually I think it came with the meal kinda like a mint.

Perhaps you could have used a little cheese with your whine!!;)

  • Warm Nut Ramekin anyone?

It just took awhile to ferment the raisins. :D

Q: Whats the difference between AS first class and QX?
    A: Nothing

  • OK--no more whining from me--on SEA-SBA this morning there were 40 raisins! A 400% increase (and this will likely start a new thread on % increases, fold vs times, etc. For the record, it also represents a 4-fold increase, and is 5 times higher....)

I beg to differ... the seat size is much smaller... (Still waiting for my F seat on the Q400 :p)
